The head coach at Georgia: Mark Richt, is one of the finalists for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. There are three other SEC coaches in the running for this award. I for one think that Mark Richt deserves to win because he has done an awesome job at Georgia for the six seasons he has coached there. As head coach Richt has won two SEC championships and has an overall record of 61-17. This record is fifth best in the country among active coaches.
Mark Richt is a finalist because of his success at Georgia not only on the field but off of it too. Richt takes the time to help his players succeed in life, not just at football. All the Bulldog fans need to vote for Richt because he deserves this prestigious award.

All SEC Football Team
Coaches All SEC
Knowshon Moreno is the only player from Georgia that is on the Coaches First Team All SEC football team. He is joined by Heisman candidates QB Tim Tebow and RB Darren McFadden.
Center Fernando Velasco and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe both made the Second Team All SEC football team.
All SEC
4 of Georgia's players were chosen for the All SEC Team. Georgia's running back Knowshon Moreno and defensive tackle Geno Atkins were both on the First Team All SEC. Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and punt returner Mikey Henderson were both on the Second Team All SEC.

New Orleans Here We Come
Well unfortunately, Georgia isn't going to be able to play in the national title game this year. It looks like we are going to the Sugar Bowl and playing against the undefeated Hawaii team. No one had even mentioned the Sugar Bowl until both Missouri and West Virginia lost in the same night. Then the national title game was up in the air. Somehow, LSU is the lucky team chosen to play against Ohio State. That bowl is also being played in New Orleans.
Mark Richt said that he was disappointed that his team had to get disappointed but is happy to be able to play in the Sugar Bowl. He says that Hawaii is a good team and that his team will have to work hard to spoil Hawaii's first undefeated season in school history.
Let's stop Hawaii's season and win the Sugar Bowl!

Let's Go Bowling
What Color Ball Do You Want?
There is a possibility Georgia may go to the Orange, Rose, or Fiesta Bowl. If Georgia goes to the Rose Bowl, which is in California, there is a possibility of playing USC (The University of Southern California).
If Georgia plays in the Orange Bowl we may be seeing a rematch of last year's Chick-fil-a Bowl against Virginia Tech. That would only happen if Virginia Tech wins the ACC Championship game against Boston College, and we all know what an up-down season Boston College has had.
The Fiesta Bowl may already be out of the question because they really want Kansas to play Oklahoma. The Fiesta Bowl is not completely out though.
Another big Bowl match up for Georgia could be Ohio State in the BCS National Championship. A couple of pretty big things would have to happen for Georgia to play in the National Championship game. First the #1 and #2 ranked team would both have to lose and the voters would have to think Georgia is the best team to go to the National Championship game, which they are.

Change That to Seven
Georgia had beaten Georgia Tech six times in a row before the game on Saturday. Now the record is set at seven. Georgia's final score against their instate rival, Georgia Tech, was 31-17.
Offense
Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno wasn't able to get as much done as anticipated but senior running back Thomas Brown sure took up the slack. Moreno was held to an all time low of 45 yards. Thomas Brown had a little more luck than Moreno. Brown ran for 139 yards with 17 carries and 1 touchdown.
Georgia's wide receivers Sean Bailey, Mohamed Massaquoi, and Kris Durham put up good results for the dogs as well. Durham had 1 catch with 23 yards, Bailey had 3 catches with 85 yards, and Massaquoi had 6 catches with 74 yards and a touchdown.
Defense
Georgia's defense was working really well together. Kelin Johnson and Danneel Ellerbe both had 8 tackles. Freshman Rennie Curran had 6 tackles. The defense also intercepted one of GT Quarterback Taylor Bennett's passes.
Who's Ready To Go Bowling
Overall it was a very good game for the Bulldogs. Even though they aren't going to the SEC Championship game they should be playing in a big BCS Bowl Game like the Rose, Fiesta, or Orange. They may even have a chance to go to the National Championship game but that is a big if.

Bowl Scenarios
Well, unfortunately Georgia will not be SEC champions this year thanks to Tennessee's win over Kentucky after 4 overtimes. Heisman candidate Andre Woodson could have done anything else besides fall on the last play of the game...but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Anyway there is always next year and some people believe not having to play LSU will improve our bowl situation. I disagree because I think we are one of the hottest teams in the nation now...but on the other hand LSU is coming off a loss. It looks like we'll never know who has the better team though.
Mark Richt announced in an interview that he would like to go to the Rose Bowl. He said that he went to the Orange Bowl with Florida State, so he would enjoy a visit to California and the Rose Bowl.
So, even though we didn't get to play for the SEC title and most likely will not be playing for the national title, we are still number 4 in the nation and will play in a BCS bowl. Which one? That's a good question. When I find out, I'll be letting you know ASAP.

Seven in a Row and the Right to Brag
This past Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs beat their in-state rival: Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech started the game in hopes of snapping the six year losing streak against Georgia. Georgia started the game in hopes of reaching a BCS bowl in January. Of course, only one team's hopes came true, and this time it was Georgia's.
The usual super star Knowshon Moreno didn't have the day he is used to having and rushed only 17 times for a mere 45 yards. It's OK Moreno shake it off and come back strong in the bowl game.
Massaquoi had the most yards through the air. He finished the day with 6 receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown.
Just as the third quarter was coming to a close, they learned that Tennessee had held on to their early lead and beaten Kentucky after four overtimes.
If anybody else is like me, they were flipping back and forth between the Georgia game and the Kentucky game. I was pulling for Kentucky and thought they were going to pull it off, until the last overtime when Andre Woodson fell and couldn't find anyone for the two point conversion. Oh well, I guess we can sit at home and watch Tennessee get slaughtered by LSU.

Squash that Bug!
Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate
This weekend Georgia will take on their in-state rival Georgia Tech. As you may or may not know the nickname for the game between the two is known as Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. Georgia Tech has a Message Board called Stingtalk where the students, alumni, and other people can talk about Georgia Tech or who they will be playing on Saturday, things like that. Some of the people from Georgia Tech aren't too happy with the outcome of the game the last several years. Here are some things they had to say about Georgia.
History
For the past 6 years Georgia has beaten Georgia Tech. I know I said in one of my other posts that we needed to throw all the records out, but I think these records can stay as they are!
Injuries
Brannan Southerland has been seen in a walking boot because of a left foot injury, but he is expected to play. Another Georgia Bulldog that is not expected to play on Saturday or ever again is Jason Johnson. Jason Johnson is the tailback for the Bulldogs. Last Tuesday in practice he suffered a spinal injury that the doctors thought was just a "stinger" but it turned out to be worse. When they did some tests on it, the tests showed that he had a narrowing of his spinal column. He has been advised to no longer compete in contact sports.
Aye Aye Captain
Mark Richt has announced that Brannan Southerland, Brian Mimbs, Geno Atkins, and Rennie Curran would be captains for the Georgia Tech game.
Kickoff
Kickoff is set for 3:30 on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium. ABC will televise the game and Larry Munson will be traveling to Bobby Dodd Stadium to call the game. This will be the first away game the Larry Munson has called.

Bulldogs Go Up Against Wildcats
Wildcats Had Their Time
The University of Kentucky had their time to shine when they beat LSU that's in the past now. They beat the #1 ranked team in the country yet they lost to Florida and Mississippi State. Their starting QB, Andre Woodson was one of the nominees for the Heisman Award. Keyword in there is was. Andre Woodson is no longer in the running for the Heisman. Kentucky is now ranked in the BCS as #23.
History
Kentucky plays Between the Hedges this weekend. After last years loss in Lexington the dogs should be pretty peeved about it. The final score for last years game was 24-20. Kentucky has not beaten Georgia in Athens since 1977. I'd say it's time for a showdown.
Motivational Tactics
Mark Richt has been using some very interesting motivational tactics, such as the celebration at Florida and the black jersey's against Auburn. This week it looks like Georgia will have a red out. The dawg walk will start at 10:30 and the kickoff is at 12:30. The senior football players will be honored about 15 minutes before kickoff. Everyone remember to wear red to support the dawgs and to be at the game early to honor the seniors.

Mood of Auburn Game
Did you glance at it again..see it now? I thought that this picture summed up the whole mood of the Auburn game. While Georgia played one of their best games of the season, Auburn did the exact opposite. Maybe you will think it is as funny as I did.

Moreno is being watched
Knowshon Moreno is being watched, for the Heisman that is! How awesome is that?! He only has one vote as of right now, but Mel Kipper put him in his top 5 Heisman Nominees. Moreno is #5. He's in there with QB Dennis Dixon, QB Tim Tebow, RB Darren McFadden, and QB Chase Daniel.

Wildcats Come In Hopes of Crushing Georgia's SEC Title Chance
On Saturday at 12:30, Georgia will take on the Kentucky Wildcats in Athens. Hopefully, they can show us something after our amazing wins against Florida and Auburn. Let's not underestimate the power of this Kentucky team though, we can't forget that they beat LSU earlier this year. That doesn't seem to matter for Richt and his team, because he has a couple things in mind on how to get everyone fired up...again.

Tigers get a whoppin'
Game Recap
Blackout Was Rockin'
OH MY GOSH! The Georgia-Auburn Game was awesome! I loved every minute of it! I loved the black jersey's, I think they need to wear them more often. When I first heard about the blackout idea, in the back of my mind, I always thought they might come out in black jersey's, but Mark Richt never said a definite yes or no. When the game came on TV you never saw Georgia warming-up but the announcers said they had warmed up in red jersey's, but when they ran through the Georgia poster they were in black. After that the crowd just went insane, they were all in shock, but so was I. I personally think that now that we have the black jersey's we need to wear them more often! Here are some quotes I found where some of the players and Mark Richt talk about the Black jersey's.
Brandon Coutu -
"Only the seniors knew. The rest of the team didn't know until right before the game. We went out there and did the coin flip in red [jerseys] because we wanted the team to get all the cheers. It was fun the see the whole place get electrified like that. It was nice to see the whole fan base back us. We're all in this together. The Bulldog Nation definitely had our backs tonight.Fernando Velasco -
"Nobody saw the jerseys until right before the game. It was dark and we had all the lights out while we said our team prayer like we usually do. When the lights came on our black jerseys were out. The locker room went pretty crazy. Same reaction from the team as we had from the fans."
"I didn't tell my girlfriend, I didn't tell my mama, I didn't tell nobody. That was the only way it could work."
Knowshon Moreno -
"We really didn't know. We walked in, [the black jerseys] weren't here. In the back of our minds we thought this week it was going to happen and then today we thought it really wasn't. It was really exciting when they gave them to us."
Offense
Georgia's offense was incredible with Brown and Moreno, neither one of them could be stopped. When Brown was in he was either make good runs or blocking for us. When Moreno was in he was running the ball or making good blocks (didn't anybody know he could block?) so Stafford could throw the ball. Sean Bailey made some good catches as well, he had 4 catches with 96 yards in all and 1 touchdown. Matthew Stafford completed of 11 of 19 passes and threw for 237 yards including 2 touchdown passes, with only 1 interception. Knowshon Moreno had 22 carries and rushed for 101 yards and had 2 touchdowns.
Healthy? I think so!
Thomas Brown is back and healthy! He had 14 carries and 81 yards in all. He had 1 touchdown in the game.
Defense
The defense was pretty pumped up as well. Maybe it was the black jersey's? The first play of the game Auburn's quarterback, Brandon Cox, was going to throw a pass and safety Kelin Johnson intercepted the pass. In the entire game Brandon Cox threw four interceptions. I kinda felt bad for the guy. Incase you didn't know, last year when we were at Jordan-Hare Stadium Brandon Cox threw four interceptions then too.

Georgia "Blacks Out" Auburn 45-20
So, on Saturday for the first time ever, the Georgia Bulldogs ran out from the tunnel in black jerseys. It was probably the loudest run-out in Georgia history. I would have given almost anything to be there and live that kind of excitement.
So, there is everything you need to know about the Auburn game. My next post will be getting you ready for the Kentucky game. Go Dawgs!

Black Jerseys Or Not?
I have found some last minute information about the Auburn game that I want to share with you. First of all, about the "black out," we already know that the fans were asked to wear black, but did you know that word is going around the players may be in black too? Don't get too excited yet, Richt has made many comments throughout the week that suggest the players will be in the normal red, but on the other hand, he has also made comments that suggest the players will wear out of the ordinary black jerseys for Saturday's game.
The last thing I want to share with you is about recent injuries. Richt says that Thomas Brown, Kade Weston, and Kelin Johnson will all be back for the Auburn game. Maybe this extra information will improve our chances. Go Dawgs!

Dawgs Hoping To Crush Tigers
It's Saturday in Athens people! Does that bring chills to anyone besides me? It's especially important this Saturday when the Dawgs play the rivaled Auburn Tigers. Kickoff is set at 3:30 between the hedges.
I think it can work, if only we could just get rid of the ugly orange and blue that will also be there. So, if you are going to the game on Saturday: WEAR BLACK. Don't ruin it for the Bulldog Nation or the senior football players. It's the last time they get to play Auburn, so do it for them.

Watch out tigers, here we come!
Georgia Calls For A Blackout
Georgia's Senior football players call for a blackout. I know what your thinking, they won't televise they game. Well guess what? You're wrong. The seniors are calling for a blackout, but not the kind you're thinking of. The seniors want the fans to wear all black to the Auburn game. Mark Richt said in his weekly conference:“The seniors asked me to encourage the Bulldog Nation to wear black to Saturday’s game,” Richt commented. “I asked them why, and they said it would be cool and a great sign of unity.”
On the official Georgia football web-site, there's a video of Mark Richt talking about it. I'm not going to the game (unless my dad can get tickets at the last minute!) (cross your fingers), but I will be watching it at home dressed in black of course. Even if your not going to the game wear a black t-shirt to support your dogs.
Are they the war eagles or the tigers?
Can anybody tell me what Auburn's mascot is, because I thought they were the tigers, then I thought they were the War Eagles? Now I just don't know! What school has two mascots? Could they not just make up their mind?
Throw 'em out
Throw out the the record books this is a new year and a start of new traditions. Georgia hasn't beaten Florida and Auburn in the same year since 1982. After such a great game against Florida it would be so awesome to win against Auburn. This is a video of last years highlights against Auburn at Auburn. Georgia creamed them 37-15.
Getting ready for a win
Mark Richt and the bulldog football players are already preparing for Auburn. They've been having good practices and there is a possibility that Thomas Brown and Kelin Johnson will be playing! For the last couple of weeks Thomas Brown has been out with a broken collarbone and Kelin Johnson has been out with a knee injury.

Troy Horse Visits Athens
Trojans come to Athens
This Saturday Georgia played their homecoming game against Troy. Troy is a very good football team. They've played a lot of the same teams as Georgia. They played the Gators in "The Swamp" and the score was 59-31! Pretty dang good if you ask me! Troy has also played OSU (Oklahoma State University) and kicked their butts. The final score was 41-23. OSU was the first game of the season for Georgia. We beat them 35-14.
Didn't seem that hurt to me
The quarterback for Troy, Omar Haugabook was a bit banged up and hadn't been practicing with the team much. He has a hamstring injury. Even with the injury he played a very good game. He completed 29 of 45 passes, threw for 310 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
Howdy Neighbor!
Troy's running back, Kenny Cattouse, is probably pretty familiar with Georgia's running back Knowshon Moreno. Kenny Cattouse was ranked the #2 running back in New Jersey, while Moreno was ranked #1. Moreno and Cattouse were teammates back in highschool.
Offense
Matthew Stafford threw for 217 yards, completed 17 of 29 passes, threw for 2 touchdowns, and only had 1 interception. Knowshon Moreno rushed for 196 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. His longest was an 80 yard touchdown run. This was the longest touchdown run since 1980 in a game against Kentucky.
Game Recap

Amazing Bulldawg Blawg
I've been checking for other blogs about Georgia football and I found one I really liked. It's called The Bulldawg Blawg. On the blog it has a post about an open letter to Knowshon Moreno. It is hilarious, I love it! My personal favorites are 3, 7, and 8 :
3) Please don't ever listen to Herschel Walker comparisons. You are your own man.
7) Please don't drive even if you've smelled a beer. There are plenty of people that will drive you wherever you want to go.
8) Please keep jumping up off the ground and running back to the huddle. We love it.
Auburn Game
Georgia's next game is against Auburn, my next post will be an overview of last year's game and my predictions for this year. (Uhm, suprise, we win!)

UGA Homecoming: The ball comes home to the end zone!
It was a dawg- gone good time this past Saturday, when Georgia won homecoming and defeated Troy 44-34. Hey, guys, our record is now 7-2! That is sweet!
Moreno Show Again
196 yards in 26 carries and 3 TD's and one fumble. Moreno now has a total of over 1,000 yards. He is one of the only running backs in Georgia history to reach 1,000 yards in his freshmen year. Moreno was named SEC Freshmen of the Week for the third time this season. Richt said that he was proud of Moreno, of course, but would like to reduce his carriers from 30 a game to about 20 a game. I say let him carry it 40 times if it works!
I found this video of (guess who?) in high school and I thought it was interesting, so I hope you enjoy!

And the party broke out in Georgia: Georgia Florida football 2007
Wow! All I can say is wow! The Georgia-Florida game was awesome! The final score was 42-30, Georgia winning the game!
We were the UnderDAWG!
No one thought Georgia would win, everyone thought Florida would win. Every announcer on ESPN or CBS thought Florida would prevail and come out with another win, but they were clearly so wrong. They were wrong from the very beginning when all the Georgia players ran out onto the field.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Watch the video at the top of this post.
Clueless in Jacksonville
My favorite part is when the Florida players don't know what's going on.
Celebrate Good Times! Come On!
There was actually a lot of controversy over this celebration. Many people thought it was classless and wrong. They thought Georgia was dissing the Florida team, when Mark Richt and the other Georgia players have said many times that they weren't trying to diss anybody, they were trying to get pumped up themselves. After the Georgia players ran out onto the field the Florida players started jumping up and down too. Were they being classless when they were doing that? No I don't think so.
Georgia got penalized anyways. 30 yards for 2 celebration penalties. Georgia had to kick off from the 7 yard line, we got penalized. Stop being sore losers and get over yourself, you were beaten it's over and done with. OBVIOUSLY THE BETTER TEAM WON!
Bruised shoulder? More like bruised ego!
Another thing the Florida fans are complaining about is the fact that Tebow had a hurt shoulder. Well guess what people? If your quarterback was so hurt then why the heck was he playing? If he was so "hurt" then don't you think you should bench the guy? You do have a back-up quarterback, right? What makes the discussion even more pointless is that the shoulder that was hurt was his non-throwing shoulder. Maybe if Urban Meyer didn't run him so much "Superman" wouldn't be so hurt. Looks like "Superman" found his Kryptonite.Again I have to say it, stop being sore losers and get over yourself. You lost!
DefenseGeorgia's defense was on fire Saturday! They ended up sacking Tebow 6 times! Out of the last 7 or 8 games he has only been sacked 5 times. In this one game he was sacked 6! How amazing is that! Georgia's defense made sure that Florida's offense wasn't going to get much done. They ended up making Tebow have - 15 yards.
Offense
Georgia's offense did a pretty good job of keeping up with their defense as well. Redshirt freshmen Knowshon Moreno ended up carrying the ball 33 times and going for 188 yards. He scored 3 touchdowns as well as catching 2 balls giving him an additional 17 yards.
Moreno wasn't the only person on the Georgia offense to get some points on the scoreboard. Sophomore quarterback Matthew Stafford threw the ball for 217 yards including an 84 yard pass to Mohamed Massaquoi and a 53 yard pass to Mikey Henderson.
Who's in the top 10?!
Before this game Georgia was 18th in the BCS standing. Now we are #10. Florida was 11th after losing to Georgia they fell to #20.
I love SEC football!

Meet ScoopDawg1
This is the first post on The Dawg Pile blog page. I'm really excited about it and you should be too! This blog is perfect if you love UGA football because this is the place to get all your UGA information. My partner and I, ScoopDawg2, will be blogging on here letting everybody in the Bulldog Nation know what's going on in UGA football.
We'll be giving out stats from the games, players that are hurt or how they are recovering, and maybe if we're lucky player or coach interviews!
The blog will mainly be about UGA football but we'll also talk about other football teams in the SEC, especially if there's one really amazing game. For instance did anyone watch the LSU- Kentucky game? That was an amazing game, what wasn't so great was that Kentucky lost to Florida the next week.
What's even better is that this week is probably the biggest week in Georgia football because this weekend is the Georgia-Florida game! Kickoff is at 3:30 so everybody be prepared for some great SEC football!
