The Drought is Over

Hey everybody! This is Scoop Dawg 2, and I am in an especially good mood today because Georgia has finally beaten the usually dominating Gators. Today, I just want to share a couple thoughts on why I think we finally pulled off a victory in Jacksonville.

BYE week
One of the main reasons the Dawgs won is because we finally got a BYE week before playing Florida. For anyone who cares: the team with an off week before this game is 15:2 and for the past fifteen years, the winning team has been Florida. Finally, Georgia lucked out and got the off week which allowed us to recuperate and have more time to study and practice for Florida while Florida was still recovering from a tough game against Kentucky. Hey, it paid off. Maybe Mark Richt should request a BYE week before Florida every year.

Bruised Shoulder
Another key to the game, although I hate to admit it, is that Tim Tebow's right shoulder was bruised, keeping him limited in his running game. Because "Superman" was hurt and because of the Dawgs' amazing defense, we managed to keep Tebow to minus 15 yards and sacked him 6 times. That's more than all of his previous game sacks combined. Of course Florida is going to be using the excuse of his shoulder for 12 months, but sorry Tebow: A win's a win's a win's a win.

Mighty Moreno
I don't think the game would have been quite the same without my man, Knowshon Moreno. This red-shirt freshmen had an amazing game and rushed for a career high 188 yards in 33 carries and 3 TD's. Moreno also had 2 catches which added 17 yards to his total yardage to bring up a total of 205 yards. Carrying the weight of all of our running backs, Moreno came out huge and was named the SEC Player of the Week.

Richt's Out of Character Move
Another huge reason for the win over Florida was the excitement shown by the players and coaches from the very beginning of the game. As soon as Moreno scored his first touchdown, the entire team ran wildly on to the field to celebrate. Even though it resulted in almost a 30 yard penalty, I believe it was worth it because it kept the excitement and momentum on our side the whole rest of the game. Mark Richt told CBS that the penalty was planned. He said that if his team didn't get an excessive celebration penalty after our first score, he would get his team up at 5:45 in the morning and run the heck out of them. Some say it was very out of character for Richt to do something like this, especially after chasing his team off of the Vandy field just two weeks before. In response, Richt says that he meant know disrespect, he was just trying to get his team hyped up for the game. Personally, I think he was tired of going to Jacksonville and getting beat every year. My hat goes off to him for keeping the momentum on our side throughout the whole game. Congrats on the 42-30 win Coach, you deserve it.
