Which game is most crucial to the 2009 season?

Do what you gotta do!

In order for this team to be in contention for a National Championship, there are a couple of things that need to be done.

  1. We need to EXECUTE. Any time we have the opportunity to score, whether it be a field goal or a touchdown we need to get it done.
  2. Good DEFENSE. We have 9 of our 11 starters returning from last season. Make tackles, get sacks, and make turnovers. Remember defense wins games.
  3. Don't get COCKY. If any of our players start getting cocky because we were ranked high in the polls that could potentially lose us the game.
  4. Stop getting in TROUBLE. Stay away from the bars, don't get in fights, and go to class. If you get in trouble, how are we supposed to win games?
  5. WIN GAMES. This is obviously the most important of the five things.

If we can do these things I think we would have a strong chance to win the East and the SEC and if we're ranked high enough in the polls we might be in the National Championship game.

Houston we have a problem

Georgia football practice has recently started but several players will miss the first two games because of discipline problems. Six Georgia players have been in some kind of trouble with the law, whether it be a DUI (Driving Under the Influence), getting in fights, urinating in public, or messing with property at a hospital

This is a team that could be competing for a national championship and they do stupid things like this.

None of these offenses make sense! Driving Under the Influence is stupid because you could hurt yourself or somebody else- same thing goes for getting in a fight. If you need to use the bathroom go find one, don't do it in the middle of the street. When you go to a hospital to pick up other football players that are already in trouble, don't mess with their property. Get your buddies and go home before anything else happens.

Six Georgia football players have had trouble with the law this off season
  • Darius Dewberry (Linebacker)
  • Jeff Henson (Snapper)
  • Donovan Baldwin (Defensive back)
  • Michael Lemon (Defensive end)
  • Fred Munzenmaier (Fullback)
  • Clint Boling (Offensive lineman)

Rant Over Negative Attention

Today, I am writing a different type of post that I have never done before. The reason for this is because recently I read a sports magazine and all I saw was FLORIDA! It just makes me really mad how much attention their team gets. Yes, I understand that they have a pretty good with a Heisman trophy winner quarterback, but there are plenty of other teams that the media could focus on.

One of these teams is Georgia. I know I am byassed because Georgia is my team, but c'mon we never get in the spotlight. Even at the end of the season last year we got overshadowed. We were playing better than any other team in the country, but we still got negative attention. Announcers on t.v. complained about the excessive celebration penalty we got in the Florida game. They also kept making excuses for Tebow saying that the only reason we sacked him was because of his hurt shoulder. Maybe his hurt shoulder was bothering him, but that didn't cost them the game. I think that we should have gotten so much more credit for creaming the "wonderful" Florida Gators 42-30.

Don't get the wrong idea and think that I'm being a complainer, but I strongly believe that Mark Richt and his Georgia Bulldogs should get as much positive attention as the Florida Gators. This is my opionion on the subject, sorry if you don't agree. I just had to vent some anger.

Tips for a Georgia Game

Well, football season is just a little over a month away, so I thought I would start blogging again. I am trying to get everyone ready for the 2009 season. First I did a countdown of seven important games, and today I want to do a blog giving tips on Georgia games. To fans who go to every Georgia game, this blog may not be much help, but to those of us who can't make every game maybe these tips will interest you.

Ok if you're going to spend the night in Athens I love the Holiday Inn in the center of town or the Game Day hotel. Sometimes Athens is booked on game days, so reserve early. If you don't want to spend as much, try hotels in Madison.

About 2 hours before the game is a little something Georgia fans like to call the Dawg Walk. Always, Always go to the Dawg Walk. It is a very exciting event to see the players get off the buses and enter the stadium. This happens right beside the bookstore in front of the entrance to the stadium. It is one of my favorite parts of going to a game.

Before the game, find a good parking place in a nearby parking lot. Yes, you most likely will have to pay to park. If it's your first game or even if it's not: go in early. It's always interesting to me to watch the players run out and warm up.

I can't give much advice about what to do during the game. If you don't know...trust me you'll catch on.

If it's not a close game you may want to leave a bit early because if you don't...prepare to sit in your car waiting to get out for a while. My family usually gets chairs out of the back of the car and sits in the parking lot until things clear out.

So, that is just a few tips about my favorite thing to do on Saturdays. Can't wait until August 30th. Go Dawgs!

Football Season Just Around the Corner

Ok dawg fans football season is approaching fast. Who is ready? I know I am, so I am giving you a rundown on the top five Georgia games this season. Which games will be crucial to the season? Which ones are sure wins? I will countdown the top five games and give you all the information for the '08 season.

Top Five Games

Ok, if you have even glanced at the schedule you know that it's hard to choose the top five games because all of them look difficult. Nevertheless, I am going to give you my opinion on what needs to be done to win a trip to the national championship in 2008. Not surprisingly, the top five teams to beat are in the SEC.

5. Auburn
This is in the top five because Tuberville always has a good team. We have to repeat last year's black out whooping. Actually the past two year's whoopings. This time we will be at their place and they will want revenge. Our guys have to realize this and play extremely well.
4. South Carolina
Well, everybody knows that we lost by four points to South Carolina last year. Those four points may be the reason we didn't play for a national championship instead of LSU. Mark Richt better get the team fired up and put Spurrier back in his place.
3. Tennessee
Most Georgia fans are trying to forget last year's beat down in Knoxville. I know I am because we were a much better team. Because of this 35-14 loss, Tennessee got to play in the SEC championship. Hopefully this year we can reverse the score and get revenge that is badly needed.
2. Florida
This could very well be the most important game of the season. First of all, Tebow is flying high because of his Heisman trophy. We hope to knock "Superman" off of his mountain. Bad news for us: Florida gets the open week before playing us. We should forget about everything else, and remember the hype we had last year going into this game and kick some butt. Another reason this game is important is because in many cases, the winner of this game wins the east and a trip to the SEC Championship.
1. LSU
I believe that this game and the Florida game are equally important. This game is going to attract a lot of people because LSU is coming off of a national championship win. We finally get to prove ourselves to them. Good news for Georgia is that their quarterback is suspended, so they have to find a replacement quick. The replacement will most likely be inexperienced. I hope the Dawgs can pull this one off and show all the nay-sayers that Georgia can beat anybody even LSU.
So, this is my opinion for the '08 season. I hope to win everyone of these games, but it's not going to be easy.

Death in the UGA Family

Tragedy Strikes

Today UGA VI will be buried at Sanford Stadium at 3:00. He will be buried in a marble vault along with the other UGA mascots.

UGA died Friday in Savannah, Georgia. He died from congestive heart failure. UGA VI would have turned 10 on July 22.

Damn Good Dawg

UGA VI has won the most games as the mascot for the University of Georgia. The football team had an 87-27 record while UGA VI was the mascot. They have won two SEC Tournament championships (2002, 2005). UGA VI has been around for 19 of Georgia's 35 national championships.

UGA VI will be missed greatly by the dawg nation!

Spring Practice

Spring Practice

Soon Georgia's football spring practice will be starting. It starts Monday, March 3 and finishes up Saturday, April 5 with the G-Day game. It should be pretty easy practices because we didn't lose many starters. I think the biggest position we need to work on is the kicker. I know Blair Walsh is coming in as a highly ranked kicker, but he won't be here for Spring Practice.

What # are you?

Numbers are a big deal in any college sport. It doesn't matter what sport it's in, college players want good numbers, whether it's in how many points you put up, how many yards you throw or run, or what the number on the back of your jersey is. Numbers Count! Georgia's redshirt freshmen understand this and have already snagged the jersey numbers they want.

Quarterback Logan Gray traded his number 19 jersey for Kregg Lumpkin's number 6 jersey.

Running back Caleb King traded the number 22 jersey for his old, number 4 jersey which was previously worn by Sean Bailey.

Wide receiver Tavarres King is number 12.

Running back Richard Samuel has number 22 while Dontavious Jackson will be wearing number 27.

Center Ben Jones will be wearing number 61.

Some players aren't able to get the numbers they want because a Senior may already be wearing their old number or in Asher Allen's case it could be retired.

"My number was 21 but that was retired by [Frank] Sinkwich and I found out very quickly nobody was touching that one," said Allen, a junior from Tucker. "So then they brought up, how about the number 2? I'd never worn a single digit. I always wore 10 or 21. But I just said, 'Let's do something different.' And I'm loving it now. I really like my number 2 now."

Some like Matthew Stafford got lucky.

Contrary to what some might think, Stafford — a lifelong and dedicated wearer of the number 7 — was not promised the digit by the Bulldogs despite being one of the most highly touted quarterback prospects in the country.

"It was open both at Texas and here," Stafford said. "It worked out perfect because Bryan Evans wanted 3 but D.J. Shockley was here his first year so [Evans] wore 7 and, when Shock left, Bryan went back to 3. So it was wide open for me."

National Signing Day

National Signing Day

Yesterday was National Signing Day and Georgia signed 23 of the 25 players that had committed. Only one player backed out at the last minute. Dwayne Allen had been having second thoughts since Monday. He called a press conference to say that he would stick with his commitment to Georgia. Obviously his decision changed Wednesday morning when he decided to sign with Clemson.

Sign Here and Here

The 23 players that committed includes:

Ben Jones
Tavarres King
Richard Samuel
Bryce Ros
Dontavius Jackson
Bacarri Rambo
DeAngelo Tyson
Sanders Commings
Christian Robinson
Brandon Boykin
Jeremy Longo
Blair Walsh
Toby Jackson
Jonathan Owens
Cordy Glenn
A.J. Harmon
Xavier Avery
Marcus Dowtin
Makiri Pugh
A.J. Green
Carlton Thomas
Cornelius Washington
Nick Williams

Rivals has rated Georgia as the number 6 class, ESPN rated Georgia number 5 and, Scout rated Georgia number 4.

Some people think that Georgia will be Preseason # 1. I think that we should be as well. With all the talent we have coming in (A.J. Green & Blair Walsh) and all the players we have coming back (Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, & Brannan Southerland), not to mention all the players who redshirted in 2007 (Logan Gray, Israel Troupe, & Caleb King) I think we have a great chance of being ranked number 1 at the beginning of next season. Georgia only loses about 6 starters, so we have a huge advantage over schools who lose more than that.

I personally can't wait until next years season. I think that 2008 or 2009 (maybe even both) will be the year we win a National Championship. Maybe Moreno or Stafford can win the Heisman along with it!

23 Players Join Georgia Team

Signing day for the 2008 Georgia football team was held yesterday Feburary 6, 2008. The day went well even though Georgia lost one of it's top recruits, not to mention the coach's son. Georgia racked up many top recruits including Ben Jones, an offensive lineman from Alabama and A.J. Green, a scary good reciever.

Recruits
These two and 21 others are among the 5th ranked class in the nation this year. What did Richt have to say about the class? "We did a fantastic job of meeting our needs." Richt said.

The Coach's Son
Of course, Richt was asked about his son's decision to attend Clemson instead of Georgia. He replied that it wouldn't be healthy for him, me, or the program. He thinks it is a good idea for him to go to Clemson because he may get playing time there, where as at Georgia, Stafford has the job pretty much wrapped up.

Overall, there are 23 players ready to join the ones we already have and prepare for a run to the national championshiop in 2008.It's scary how loaded we are going to be.

Coach of the Year

The head coach at Georgia: Mark Richt, is one of the finalists for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. There are three other SEC coaches in the running for this award. I for one think that Mark Richt deserves to win because he has done an awesome job at Georgia for the six seasons he has coached there. As head coach Richt has won two SEC championships and has an overall record of 61-17. This record is fifth best in the country among active coaches.

Mark Richt is a finalist because of his success at Georgia not only on the field but off of it too. Richt takes the time to help his players succeed in life, not just at football. All the Bulldog fans need to vote for Richt because he deserves this prestigious award.
